4America/DenverIBM Plex Sans<strong>Lola Ogunbote</strong> is a Nigerian-born Brit whose life and leadership are rooted in her faith in Jesus Christ and a deep commitment to uplifting women and girls through sport. After qualifying as a UK Attorney, she transitioned into soccer in 2016, guided by prayer and a desire to align her skills with God’s purposes, and has since led professional men’s and women’s teams across multiple continents with integrity, humility, and compassion. Lola currently serves as Executive Director of Goals for Girls, a US-based non-profit using football to build confidence and empower girls in their communities. In 2021, she made history as the first Head of Women’s Football at Burnley Football Club (Premier League). This event offers an unprecedented window into the lived experiences of autistic individuals—in their own words.<br><br>What makes this evening especially unique is that it doubles as a live research opportunity. During the storytelling, we will be using cutting-edge brain imaging technology to simultaneously scan the brains of both storytellers and audience members. Our goal is to explore how storytelling may foster neural synchrony and mutual understanding between autistic and non-autistic (neurotypical) individuals.<br><br>This research is grounded in the theory of the Double Empathy Problem, which suggests that difficulties in communication and connection between autistic and non-autistic people are mutual—not solely on the autistic side. We believe that story may be a powerful bridge between minds that often struggle to connect.
