Don Cordell is a Foreign Service Officer with the U.S. Department of State with 17 years of experience working in international relations and national security. A Public Diplomacy-coned officer since 2009, he is currently preparing for his upcoming assignment as the Spokesperson at the U.S. Embassy in Prague. Previously, Don served as a Press Officer in Islamabad, Pakistan, Cultural Affairs Officer in Colombo, Sri Lanka, Consular Officer in São Paulo, Brazil, and Economic Officer in Kampala, Uganda. In Washington, Don has worked in the State Department’s Africa Bureau overseeing Public Diplomacy programs in Southern Africa, and as the Africa Branch Chief for the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) professional exchange. Prior to joining the State Department, Don worked for the Department of Defense at the Africa Center for Strategic Studies, where he helped design and implement academic and professional exchanges for senior U.S. and African military and security professionals. Don received his BA in International Politics from Brigham Young University and a master’s in Public Affairs from the Truman School at the University of Missouri. He speaks Portuguese and is studying Czech.
