John Dinkelman is the Diplomat in Residence in the D.C.-Metro area, and has 35 years of service in the U.S. Department of State. He has also served as Office and Executive Director of the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs, and Chief of Staff and Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of Administration. Dinkelman’s overseas assignments with the Foreign Service have included Belgrade, Yugoslavia, the UK, the Marshall Islands, the Netherlands, Turkey, Mexico, and the Bahamas. During his time at the Foreign Service Institute, he trained over 2,700 officers—more than 40 percent of the American diplomatic corps—for which he received the 2006 Arnold L. Raphael Memorial Award.
