Is there more to the conversation about youth suicide among sexual minorities in Utah than what we often see in the media?

At this BYU employee event, Dr. Justin Dyer and Dr. Michael Goodman from the BYU Religious Education Department will be discussing important findings from their research regarding Religion and Sexual Orientation as Predictors of Utah Youth Suicidality. Their research has practical implications for discussions about sexuality and faith in our homes, congregations, and classrooms.

Dr. Dyer and Dr. Goodman will be joined by three panelists for a conversation about the mental health of Latter-day Saint sexual minorities in Utah: Becky Borden, Dr. Ty Mansfield, and Blake Fisher. Becky works for the Priesthood and Family Department of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she manages content on Church websites focused on LGBTQ issues and life-help topics. Ty is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Adjunct Professor in the BYU Church History and Doctrine department. Blake works as an Advisor for the BYU Office of Student Success and Inclusion.

This will be an in-person-only event; attendees will be expected to follow BYU COVID-19 policies. Please feel free to reach out to the BYU Office of Student Success and Inclusion with any questions about this employee event: (801) 422-9162.

*Invited Audience: Current BYU Faculty, Administrators, and Staff (Spouses are welcome)
