"The Doorkeeper, the Choirboy, and the Singer of Psalms: A Vision for Interfaith Coexistence in the 21st Century"
At BYU's 3rd Annual World Interfaith Harmony Week Lecture Laurie L. Patton will focus on new models for interfaith engagement in the 21st century. Patton is the current President of Middlebury College and a scholar of South Asian history, culture, and religion. Through a series of compelling stories, she will illustrate the possibilities for “pragmatic pluralism,” a space where difference is needed, not just tolerated. Patton also argues that long-term relationships between religious traditions, rather than short-term episodic ones, are more effective in creating the conditions for interreligious coexistence.
