Honoring 150 Years of Stories: Ofrenda de Día de Muertos at the BYU Library

Celebrate Día de Muertos at the BYU Library!

As part of BYU’s 150th anniversary, join us in honoring the lives and legacies that shaped who we are today. Our Ofrenda de Día de Muertos invites all library patrons to come together in remembrance—celebrating ancestors, cherishing culture, and strengthening our sense of belonging in the BYU community.

From October 27 to November 1, you are invited to contribute to the ofrenda by bringing printed (not original) 4x6-inch photos of loved ones who have passed away. Paper frames will be available on-site so you can add your photo to the display.

While visiting, take part in other meaningful and fun activities:

  • Help color the Library’s Day of the Dead mural
  • Write a note to your ancestors
  • Map your ancestors’ origins
  • Take a picture at our festive photo booth
  • Enjoy traditional Mexican candy

This is a beautiful opportunity to reflect on our shared humanity, connect across cultures, and celebrate the stories that make us who we are. Come visit, participate, and help us honor the past as we look toward the future together.
