The Mivos Quartet, “one of America’s most daring and ferocious new-music ensembles” (The Chicago Reader), is devoted to performing works of contemporary composers and presenting diverse new music to international audiences. Since the quartet’s beginning in 2008, they have performed and closely collaborated with an ever-expanding group of international composers representing a wide aesthetic range of contemporary composition. In this Barlow-celebratory concert, Mivos will present the Barlow-commissioned piece Suspend Alight by composer Benjamin Sabey, a BYU alumnus currently serving as professor of composition at San Francisco State University, and a recent quartet by BYU faculty composer Neil Thornock. Other exciting new works for quartet drawn from their repertoire will round out the concert.
