Gus Hart, a professor in the Physics and Astronomy Department, will deliver the Devotional address.
Gus Hart holds bachelor’s degrees in physics and Japanese from BYU. In 1999, he received a PhD in condensed matter physics from the University of California, Davis and then worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. After five years on the faculty at Northern Arizona University, he returned to BYU as a faculty member in 2006. Last year he switched research fields and now studies fundamental biophysical processes in cells, primarily bacteria.
Hart married Cynthia Christensen, whom he met at BYU in 1990. They have five children and two grandchildren. On his lunch hour, Hart loves to play handball with students and fellow faculty.
His remarks will be broadcast live on BYUtv, BYUtv.org
