Professor Kevin John

Winter 2018 Raymond E. and Ida Lee Beckham Lecture

Thursday, March 22
11:00 AM MT
321 MSRB

Kevin John, Assistant Professor in the School of Communications, will present a lecture titled "Everybody Lies: Using Biometric Research to Discover Hidden Truths" at this semester's Raymond E. and Ida Lee Beckham Lecture.

Professor John's lecture will address the pitfalls of self-report measures—or any instance where we have to rely on people to tell us what they are thinking or how they are feeling. Issues ranging from lying to exaggeration will be discussed, as well as the impact these can have on data quality and conclusions.  Dr. John proposes biometric measures as a way to mitigate some of these problems, and reviews examples of research where biometrics have revealed “hidden truths” in the data.

This event is open to the public.
