Young Scientists Invited to Open Lab Day

Saturday, May 06
9:00 AM - 1:00 PM MT
BYU Ezra Taft Benson Building

Children are our future, and BYU is looking to make that future as bright as possible by giving young students the opportunity to conduct their own captivating chemistry experiments at Open Lab Day!

The BYU chapter of the American Chemical Society, Y-Chem, will host Open Lab Day on Saturday, May 6 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Ezra Taft Benson Building (BNSN). All young scientists in elementary, junior high, and high school are invited to attend.

Open Lab Day began several years ago as an effort to help local students develop an interest in and curiosity about chemistry. Attendees will be able to conduct experiments designed for students of all ages—from making “magic goop” to synthesizing banana oil.

In addition to carrying out their own experiments, students will be able to attend a chemistry magic show, savor some liquid nitrogen ice cream, and tour a research lab.
