In 1919, a German art school was founded that would have an indelible effect on the direction of modern fine and applied arts. The Bauhaus (“School of Building”) sought to eradicate distinctions between artistic media and to promote a vision of artistic production in the service of society. In operation until shut down by the Nazis in 1933, this was a site for experimental studio art and design, architecture, theatre, dance, and myriad other art forms. Join us as faculty from across campus discuss the importance of the Bauhaus in their field and celebrate its anniversary.
