Sydney B. Sperry Symposium

Friday, October 22
6:30 PM - 9:30 PM

The Sperry Symposium, named in honor of pioneering Latter-day Saint scripture scholar Sidney B. Sperry, seeks to examine an aspect of the religious and cultural heritage of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Celebrating its 50th anniversary, the symposium focuses this year on “Covenant of Compassion: Caring for the Marginalized and Disadvantaged in the Old Testament.” The event will take place on Friday, October 22, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Saturday, October 23, from 9:00 a.m. to noon in both the Joseph Smith Building (JSB) auditorium and in rooms 206, 207 and 221 of the Martin Building (MARB). The keynote address will be by Sister Sharon Eubank, First Counselor in the Relief Society General Presidency. Sister Eubank is on Church assignment and her address has been pre-recorded and will be shown on Friday night. Admission is free and no registration is required.

Each fall since 1973, the Sidney B. Sperry Symposium has become one of the premier venues for Latter-day Saint religious study. Originating to encourage faith-based religious scholarship on Latter-day Saint topics, today’s Sperry Symposium seeks to influence thousands through presentations and publications. Throughout the symposium’s history, the published collection of papers represents the work of more than 275 authors producing more than 600 articles.
