Borderless Soccer: How Players from the Caribbean Have Transformed the Global Game

Although few Caribbean nations have ever reached the soccer World Cup, players with Caribbean heritage have nevertheless changed the global game. Come listen to soccer expert Laurent Dubois talk about players like Josie Altidore (USA), Thierry Henry (France), and Marcus Rashford (England), among others, who have all made their mark internationally. Dr. Dubois will also give a shout out to the Haitian women’s team which qualified for their first Women’s World Cup for this year.

Laurent Dubois is John L. Nau III Bicentennial Professor of the History & Principles of Democracy and Academic Director of the Karsh Institute of Democracy at the University of Virginia. He is the author of Soccer Empire: The World Cup and the Future of France (2010) & The Language of the Game: How to Understand Soccer (2018), and his writings on soccer have appeared in The Atlantic, The New Republic, The New York Times, and Sports Illustrated.
