Calvin S. Smith—Utah's "Fighting Chaplain" in The Great War

Dr. Kenneth L. Alford, Professor of Church History and Doctrine, will present a lecture, Calvin S. SmithUtah "Fighting Chaplain" in the Great War as part of the L. Tom Perry Special Colletions' Archives Month activities.

Calvin S. Smith, a son of Church president Joseph F. Smith, served as one of only three Latter-day Saint chaplains during World War I. Wounded twice in front-line combat and recommended for a battlefield promotion, Chaplain Smith actively participated during three major offensives in France and Belgium. This presentation will share the interesting, inspiring, and sometimes humorous story of thisgenuine American hero.
