Peronism is the most powerful political force in modern Argentina. Peronists have used and interpreted Argentina’s history in distinctive ways since Peronism began in 1946. Dr. Gabriel Di Meglio will discuss these different uses of national history by Argentina’s dominant political party, from the historical views of Juan Perón himself, to Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, and up to the present day.

Gabriel Di Meglio is a professor of history at the University of Buenos Aires, and is currently the director of the Museo Histórico Nacional, one of the most important museums in Argentina. He is the author of several books, articles, and books chapters, and has been a writer and host of several television shows related to Argentine history. He has also been a researcher for Argentina’s National Scientific and Technical Research Council (CONICET).

Presented by the Kennedy Center's Latin American Studies program.
