What happens when a rising state in the international system takes over leadership from a declining state? How much interstate violence and turbulence should we expect in the global system? This talk will focus on what leads to international stability during periods of shifting power in international relations.
Ken Stiles is a professor of Political Science at BYU where he teaches courses on international organization, law, and ethics. He studies the role of powerful states in creating and enforcing global institutions and rules. His most recent books include The Domestic Sources of International Institutions (Routledge 2023) and Global Institutions in a Time of Power Transition (Edward Elgar 2023).
